In winter
Winter is a season of its own here. A few ideas:
- Cross-country skiing at Skyttis. The municipality runs about 10 km of lit trails and a 7 km asphalt loop that get artificial snow when the weather allows. A trail pass is required for adults; under-18s ski free. See the municipality's Skyttis page (Swedish) for passes and hours.
- Downhill skiing. Åsbacken is about five minutes from the town centre, and Bjästabacken in Bjästa has five slopes. Check each slope's own site for opening days.
- Ice hockey. MoDo Hockey, the club that produced Peter Forsberg and the Sedin twins, plays at Hägglunds Arena. Our MoDo page lists the home games.
- Warm up indoors at Paradiset water park and spa.
A little further out
- Skeppsmalen, a fishing village just north of Örnsköldsvik with a pilot station, a chapel and old boathouses. It is the northernmost point of the High Coast World Heritage Site, and home to Fiskevistet, the world's first museum about fermented herring, surströmming. (Höga Kusten)
- The rest of the High Coast, including the High Coast Bridge and the coastal Tourist Road, is covered on our High Coast page.
We don't publish opening hours or prices on the English pages, because they change. Always check the official site linked from each place. Spotted a mistake? Email info@vadhanderiovik.se.
